Babybots and Botbabies Project

Course: Information in the Cultural Imagination

Project Objective: Create a creative work that explores the hypothetical impacts of a fictional prototype created in a previous assignment. Then write an analytical essay on the creative work.

I wrote a choose your own adventure story based on a fictional prototype called the Mechanical Embryo Incubator and Pregnancy Simulator (MEIPS), which is referred to as “babybot” since it looks like a robot and “produces” babies. The babybot can take an embryo capsule and simulate the entire pregnancy process, in order to incubate the baby. To understand the hypothetical implications of the babybot, I wrote three storylines which are based on the impact of the babybot in three main areas: cyberwarfare, legalities and propaganda, and reproductive decision making. After completing the story, I reviewed scholarly articles in philosophy, ethics, and medical journals that were related to my three storylines and wrote an analytical essay based on my findings.
